DULLES, Virginia, USA (AP) – A woman in a car driven by safety Deshazor Everett of Washington was killed when the vehicle crashed into several trees and overturned, authorities said.
The passenger, identified as Olivia S. Peters, 29, of Las Vegas, died in a hospital after the accident that occurred Thursday night on a highway near Aldie, Virginia, according to the county police headquarters. Loudoun.
Everett, 29, of Brambleton, Virginia, was receiving hospital care for injuries that, while serious, are not life-threatening, a team statement said.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this tragedy,” the team said in the statement. “Our team has alerted the league board and is collaborating with local authorities while continuing to collect more information.”
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed so far, said the spokesman for the police headquarters, Kraig Troxell.
Everett, the 2018 special teams captain, is in his seventh season with Washington. He was placed on the disabled list for problems unrelated to the sport.
He has two interceptions in his career and this year he has participated in 14 games, with five solo tackles and another five in collaboration with teammates.
“All I want to say is that we are very saddened by the news,” Washington head coach Ron Rivera said Friday. “My thoughts and prayers go out to the young woman’s family and also to Deshazor and her family. It is a very difficult situation and we will let things take their course and for the police and the investigation to move forward and find out what happened ”.
