Washington Olivetto, an icon of Brazilian advertising who died this Sunday, the 13th, at the age of 73, was a big Corinthians fan. The publicist became the club’s marketing president and was one of the founders of the club movement. Corinthian Democracy.
Olivetto took over the role at Corinthians when the role was not widespread in Brazilian football, at the beginning of the 1980s. His participation in the creation of Democracia Corinthiana sought to reiterate the institution’s image as “everyone’s club”. The movement was led by the players themselves, mainly Casagrande, Sócrates and Wladimir, who made internal decisions with votes among the athletes.
Among the works created by Olivetto, two books cover the club. In “Corinthians x Others”, he tells fictitious matches against teams formed by fans of other clubs, such as Santos by Fausto Silva, Palmeiras by José Serra, São Paulo by Ricardo Kotscho, Fluminense by Jô Soares, and Flamengo by Jorge Ben Jor.

In “Corinthians – É Preto no Branco”, he tells the club’s history as if he were explaining his passion for Corinthians to a North American colleague. The work is also signed by Corinthians journalist Nirlando Beirão.
Olivetto spent almost five months hospitalized at the Copa Star, in Rio. It was the hospital that confirmed the publicist’s death this Sunday and stated that he did not have the family’s authorization to disclose further details.
