Critical points of the country’s capital, Washington DC, are armored this Saturday after an exceptional deployment of security forces after the FBI’s warning that there may be new violent acts after last week’s assault on the Capitol, carried out by supporters of the president, Donald Trump. The National Mall, where the White House and the Capitol are located, is closed to the public until at least January 21.

At least 13 states have also activated National Guard units in their capitals or in the vicinity of buildings that represent the legislative power after detecting potential threats to the security of those places. In several of these places, fences are being built, Donald windows are covered, and employees are being warned to stay away, The Associated Press news agency reports.

The FBI earlier this week alerted police departments across the country that There may be armed protests in the 50 states of the country from this Saturday until at least next Wednesday, when the inauguration of the president-elect, Joe Biden is scheduled.

It is not yet clear how many of these planned protests will occur. The FBI warning does not imply that the police already have concrete indications that there will be violence in every state.

Given the possibility of problems, several media outlets have also planned extra security measures for the reporters that they have used to cover the planned protests. It is expected that among the protesters there may be supporters of opinions contrary to the media.

The state of high alert for potential security threats came after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol last week. Five people died in circumstances related to those events.

Trump incited a crowd of supporters to march to the Capitol shortly before this violent assault, using arguments, not supported by evidence any, that there was fraud in the election that he lost to Biden in November. The president reiterated statements of this type for several weeks in statements on social networks.

The police have been questioned for their performance in protecting the headquarters of Congress, where a joint session of the two chambers was being held at the time of the assault to validate the victory of the Democrat, accused of not being prepared for what happened. Dozens of people were arrested after that day of violence.

As a result of these events, the House of Representatives voted last Wednesday in favor of impeachment of Trump in the Senate for “incitement to insurrection”. just when there was a week left to leave office in favor of Biden. He is the first president of the United States to be impeached twice during his term.

It is not yet clear in what period of time the trial will take place, nor if the Upper House, still with a Republican majority waiting for two Democratic senators to take possession of their seats and reverse this balance, will vote in favor of condemning him .
