Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson spent more than two years without a suspension as he revised his way of checking.
But on Friday night, he sent a player to the hospital with a hard blow but not penalized, and the NHL failed on Saturday with a seven-game suspension for boarding.
This is his fifth suspension and the second longest of his career. He will lose $ 311,781.61 in wages.
Wilson checked Brandon Carlo on the boards in the first period of Boston’s 5-1 win on Friday night as the defenseman tried to locate a loose puck in his skates. Carlo immediately grabbed his head and looked dizzy as he needed help leaving the ice surface. He was released from the hospital on Saturday morning.
