WASHINGTON – The overseas NHL club Washington Capitals is reportedly waiting to move from the capital of the United States to Northern Virginia.
The team, which also includes Slovak defender Martin Fehérváry, should move from Washington DC to nearby Alexandria. It is in this city that a press conference is to be held, where Capitals owner Ted Leonsis will announce the whole thing. He also plans to move the Wizards basketball club, which operates in the NBA. The information was brought by the renowned overseas journalist Adrian Wojnarowski for ESPN.
Both teams have been playing at Capital One Arena in Washington since 1997, but the confident owner is looking not at history but at the future. Deputies in Virginia, where the city of Alexandria is located, voted on Monday in favor of the project to build a new arena, where both clubs should move.

Leonsis and Washington city officials have discussed possible contributions from the city to renovate the current arena, but discussions have broken down several times. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the new proposal, which includes an offer of 500 of the 800 million US dollars to finance the complete renovation and modernization of the stadium.
“This proposal is our best and final offer. The next step is to breathe new life into the neighborhood and keep the Wizards and Capitals where they belong – in Washington, DC.” Bowser told the Washington Post.
Both the Capitals and Wizards are under contract to remain in Washington until 2027, but Leonsis plans to terminate it early.
