The owner of the NHL team Washington Capitals and the NBA team Wizards has big plans.
He wants to move the team from DC to Virginia to a planned giant complex – worth close to 22 billion kroner.
Ted Leonsis and his company Monumental Sports & Entertainment have big plans for a new entertainment district in Alexandria, Virginia.
The whole thing is estimated to cost two billion dollarsaround SEK 22 billion, and the plan is, among other things, to build a hotel, convention center and shopping center.
But above all, there are plans for a new sports arena. Leonsis, who owns the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards, wants to move his teams there.

This means that the team will leave Washington DC and thus move to Arlington, Virginia. In pure travel, it is only around twelve kilometres.

If the plans go ahead, the plan is for construction to begin in 2025 and the teams to move into the new arena three years later.
“It’s going to be home to two professional sports teams and generate over 30,000 jobs — this is monumental,” said Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, who held a news conference with Ted Leonsis, according to NBC.
The Capitals and Wizards have played in Capital One Arena in downtown DC since 1997. The Athletic writes that the plan is for the WNBA team Washington Mystics to move into the old arena, which is to be renovated.
