Washington: Bernie Sanders brings in money for a good cause

Washington –

US Senator Bernie Sanders has raised money for a good cause with his now world-famous “grumpy chic” look.

Sanders’ team said merchandise with his outfit printed on the day of the presidential swearing in had raised $ 1.8 million in the past five days. The money goes to charities in Sanders’ home state of Vermont.

The Sanders’ campaign website had T-shirts and sweaters with a photo of the look on them. His team said the first product sold out last Thursday in less than 30 minutes. More articles were added over the weekend, which were also out of stock by Monday morning.

Sanders caused a sensation with his look at the inauguration ceremony for the new US President Joe Biden on Wednesday last week. He was sitting a little to one side in an olive parka – with eye-catching knitted mittens that he crossed on his lap. With this outfit, he didn’t fit into the festive setting of the swearing-in ceremony. The snapshot spread rapidly on social media. Countless users and also celebrities put Biden in his grumpy old man look by photo montage in all possible surroundings. The media invented the title “Grumpy chic” for the choice of clothes – paired with the sitting posture with folded arms.

Sanders himself said on Wednesday that he was surprised by the creativity that so many people had shown – and that he was pleased that his “Internet fame” was now benefiting people in need. (dpa)
