Washington and Seoul to Finalize Guidance on Responding to North Korean Nuclear Threat and Intercontinental Missile Launch

Washington and Seoul have agreed to finalize comprehensive guidance by next year on how to work together to deter and respond to the North Korean nuclear threat.

The guidance is expected to include methods for sharing sensitive information related to North Korea’s nuclear weapons, a consultation process in the event of a nuclear crisis, and real-time communication channels between the two countries. The new concept will also take into account joint exercise programs.

It is worth noting that in December, North Korea intends to test launch an intercontinental ballistic missile, which, according to Pentagon analysts, poses a nuclear threat regardless of its range, since it can carry a nuclear warhead.

North Korea launched an intercontinental missile with a satellite

At the end of May this year, the DPRK tried to launch the Malligyong-1 “spy satellite” into orbit, but the launch vehicle fell into the Yellow Sea.

Later on June 16, South Korea recovered several parts of the rocket and satellite from the bottom of the sea. After analyzing the details found, experts said that the satellite had no use as a reconnaissance satellite at all.

And on November 22, North Korea announced the successful launch of a ballistic missile with a spy satellite on board. Data from South Korea’s intelligence agency suggests North Korea received help from Russia for the successful launch.

Pyongyang subsequently stated that interference in the work of its satellites would mean a declaration of war.
