Washing Your Artificial Christmas Tree: To Wash or Not to Wash?

“Now we’ve washed the floor, and we’ve washed the wood” … wait a minute. It probably wasn’t quite like that song, but for some this version is also true.

Recently, influencer Rhema from Ontario, Canada shared a pre-Christmas activity that left her followers in awe.

Mora, who writes that she “loves to wash”, showed her followers how she washes her artificial Christmas tree in the bath before putting it up.

– Unnecessary

In five days, the video has clearly become Rhema’s most viewed video with over 2.1 million views.

She herself admits that this is probably an unpopular opinion to pass on.

Criticism rains down in the comments section, as most believe the whole process is completely unnecessary.

– The clean water tells me that I don’t need to do this, writes one follower.

– “CleanTok” has gone out of control, writes another.

Another user proclaims that she would rather buy a new tree than give the one she has a bath.

“Laundry demonstration”

Several also use the term “performative cleaning”, simply translated into Norwegian as “washing show” about Rehma’s video.

The term is currently used extensively on the app TikTok, and implies that you share videos of washing routines that you do not actually practice regularly, but only create to have content to share – preferably something sensational – on social media.

Disgusting discovery: – Never seen anything like it

But then the question is: Should you wash the artificial Christmas tree? To Yahoo News says Will Cotter, the founder of the cleaning company “HappyCleans”, that it can be beneficial to maintain it to make it last longer.

– Dust, fur from animals and other small things can get stuck in the branches, which makes the tree duller over time, he explains.

– Avoid using water

But he does not recommend washing the tree in the bath.

– A little gentle shaking can loosen debris and fast. You can also brush it off, or vacuum it carefully with a brush nozzle, says Cotter further.

If you find dirt that is difficult to remove, you can possibly wipe it over with a damp cloth.

Freser: – Fooling the customers

Yahoo has also shown its to the American Christmas Tree Association (ACTA). laundry advice for plastic Christmas trees.

– Avoid using water, soap, vinegar or other cleaning agents. Instead, use a dust broom or a dry microfiber cloth to wipe away dust, they write.
