WaSa Women’s Team Dominates UH Appenzell in 10-2 Victory

After a season break, the St.Gallen women met their cantonal neighbors from Appenzell again in the Tal der Humility hall.

These encounters are known to be intense and hard-fought. So it wasn’t surprising that the first goal only came in the tenth minute when the team was outnumbered.

The Finn Inka Lippojoki used the power play for UHC WaSa and scored from the slot to make it 1-0. About a minute later, Svenja Manser equalized to 1-1 with a quick counterattack.

Just half a minute later, Saskia Schnyder brought the Wasan women back into the lead. Shortly before the first period break, Shannon Brändli extended this lead from the slot to 3-1.

In the second third, WaSa started with a lot of ball possession and had the majority of the game in their hands.

In the 30th minute, Tamara Zogg once again took on an abandoned ball in the opponent’s slot and converted it to make it 4-1.

Although the WaSa women largely managed to control the game, the Appenzeller women repeatedly put them under pressure with individual pressing actions.

Ronja Graf benefited from such a situation in the 38th minute, scoring the second goal for Appenzell.

The UHA reported back shortly before the end of the second third. In the final third, however, WaSa turned things up a notch and kept a cool head.

Cédrine Göldi and Janina Manetsch each scored a goal within two minutes, making it 6-2 for the St. Gallen team in the 43rd minute.

The Appenzell women, for their part, tried to keep the pressure up. But the mortgage was already too high.

Ladina Sgier, Shannon Brändli, Janina Manetsch and Melanie Judas were even able to increase the final score to 10:2 towards the end of the game.

This means that the St.Gallen women not only win the derby, but can also look back on a successful start to the season.
