The Düsseldorf Fortuna-Büdchen has been owned by the Meffe family since 2006. On Tuesday afternoon, the three brothers and operators Antonio, Pietro and Nino Meffe posted on their Facebook page that their lease had been terminated at the end of the year. “Although already at the beginning of June and the termination is without reason” – says Nino Meffe.
The property belongs to the city
There was a conversation afterwards between the brothers and the landlady and her daughter, but according to Nino Meffe nothing came of it. That’s why the three brothers have hired a lawyer and want to take action against the Düsseldorf woman’s dismissal. She owns the house, but not the land. It is leased by the city of Düsseldorf.
Mayor Keller wants to preserve the cult kiosk
The mayor of the city of Düsseldorf, Stephan Keller (CDU), wants to campaign against the closure: “The Fortuna-Büdchen is a Düsseldorf institution and is part of the cityscape like the castle and Rhine tower” – he says in a post on the Instagram channel City of Düsseldorf. The owners’ cry for help has reached him and he will do everything to ensure that the little place can stay.
