The teenager from Florida who is accused of stabbing cheerleader Tristyn Bailey (13) 114 times, resulting in death, has pleaded guilty.
He pleaded guilty to first degree murder on Monday, nearly two years after the killing and the day before his trial, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Facebook.
The teenager was Bailey’s fellow student.
– Today was a big step for this case, says State Attorney RJ Larizza NBC News.
The public prosecutor will demand a life sentence against the teenager, who was 14 when he was arrested for the murder in 2021.
In a statement, Bailey’s family says the confession is a great relief to them, according to NBC news.
13-year-old Bailey was found dead in a forest clearing at the end of a cul-de-sac in St. Johns in Florida in the United States in May 2021. The place of discovery was less than a kilometer from the teenager’s house.
According to an affidavit, the teenager said he had argued with Bailey and pushed her to the ground after they left a mutual friend in the early morning of May 9.
During the search of the teenager’s room, investigators found a notebook containing violent drawings, including at least one bloody drawing of a naked woman, according to News4hjax.

Still on witness status in the case, he posted a Snapchat photo in a patrol car showing the two-fingered peace sign, asking: “Hey guys, has anyone seen Tristyn lately?”.
The day after this he was arrested for negligent homicide. The charge was later changed to premeditated murder.
The teenager is due back in court later this month, on February 23, for a jail date.
