With their courageous commitment, they made sure that a man lying on the tracks was not killed by an S-Bahn.

But what happened? As a spokesman for the police headquarters in Frankfurt am Main announced on Sunday afternoon, a 24-year-old and a 55-year-old man sat on an S-Bahn in the direction of Friedrichsdorf on Saturday morning.

The younger of the two is said to have rioted violently on the train and shown extremely aggressive behavior. He was then repeatedly asked by the 55-year-old to withdraw. When they got off the train together at the train station in the Rödelheim district of Frankfurt, the situation finally escalated.

Neighborhood dispute escalates: police officer seriously injured

A violent argument broke out between the two men on the platform, as a result of which the 24-year-old suddenly pushed his older opponent so hard that he fell backwards onto the tracks.

The victim was seriously injured, but it could have been worse for him. Because while he was lying on the rails, another S-Bahn was approaching Rödelheim station. Eyewitnesses who had observed the ugly spectacle drew the S-Bahn driver’s attention to the dangerous situation with gestures and shouts.

Fortunately, he reacted quickly enough and managed to stop the train about 32 meters in front of the seriously injured man with the help of emergency braking. However, the successful braking was only possible due to a train in front, which had caused the speed of the S-Bahn to be lower.

Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator had taken his legs in his hands, but was found by a federal police officer on another platform and arrested shortly afterwards. For the time being, he was in custody before he was to be brought before the magistrate on Sunday.

The Frankfurt Kripo has started further investigations into attempted manslaughter.
