Was denied vaccine – was out one day too early – VG

WAS DISAPPOINTED: While her husband received dose two, Marianne Kirchoff had to leave the vaccine center in Bærum without a new dose.

GJETTUM (VG) – I was abruptly rejected, says Marianne Kirchoff (62) in Bærum.

Published:

In mid-December, vaccine manager Geir Bukholm at the National Institute of Public Health (NIPH) said that it was absolutely necessary to vaccinate through Christmas, and that the goal is to be able to set 1.2 million doses by mid-January, to avoid more hospital admissions and a delayed reopening.

Marianne Kirchoff from Bærum wants to contribute with what she can do – namely to be vaccinated. It turns out to be more complicated than she assumed.

– I was abruptly rejected, Kirchoff tells VG.

Monday afternoon we stand outside the vaccine center in Gjettum, while she waits for her husband, who gets a dose of two inside.

– I came with my husband, who is getting his second dose now. I thought I could get my third dose at the same time, but I did not.

– FHI is our bible

Kirchoff received dose two on 10 August and is thus missing one day in the 20 weeks that FHI has set as the minimum distance between dose two and three.

– I could get tomorrow (Tuesday editor’s note), but not today, because I was missing one day. But tomorrow I can not, she explains.

CONFIRMS: Team leader Marielle Falck at the vaccine center in Bærum says that there are several who have wanted the booster dose before they can get it.

The vaccine centre’s team leader Marielle Falck confirms that you will not receive the booster dose if you arrive too early. It turns out that Kirchoff is not alone in doing so.

– We encounter that a lot now. It is all the way referred to four and a half months and everyone counts the month a little differently, but it is 20 weeks that is the lead. It is quite black and white there, says Falck to VG.

– It may seem square?

– Yes, but we also have a responsibility to ensure that people receive good enough protection from the dose they receive. These are the same regulations for those who have undergone covid-19. We relate entirely to FHI. They are our bible. In special cases, we discuss with the municipal superior, Falck explains.

– I think it is very special

Bærum offers both hourly vaccine doses and drop-in this Christmas. While VG is present, there is a steady stream of residents to the vaccine center, but there is no queue to be seen.

– And yet I was not allowed. I think it is very special, when there are drop-in doses here and you have the opportunity to try to avoid getting the coronavirus. I was very surprised. Almost a little disappointed. I do not quite know what to say, sighs Kirchoff.

– I did not think that one day would be crucial. I would have figured it out if it was a week or two, but one day …

The 62-year-old booked a vaccination class next week instead, as she is leaving. Now New Year’s Eve is celebrated with two doses instead of three.

– We can only hope that it goes well.
