Liam Lawson crossed the finish line of the US VC just eleven seconds behind Sergio Pérez and in the run up to the VC in Mexico he was talked about as a Mexican fan of Red Bull. Liam must have noticed, because when the pet got hold of him in Sunday’s race, a very sharp fight ensued.
Do you want to know how much respect Sergio Pérez has now? Well, even the midfield pilots who know they can succeed against him don’t give him anything in the way. Lawson seems to have thought the same thing. After a botched qualification, the Mexican started deep in the field and moved forward in the opening stage of the race. When he got to Lawson, he gave him nothing.
A hard fight ensued, which Lawson won. Did you act fairly? Well, the commissioners didn’t penalize this incident, so apparently they did. Pérez damaged his car in the fight and then he was foaming at the radio, but it was of no use to him. At that point, his run was pretty much over. However, their enmity did not end.

When Lawson changed the tires, he found himself on the track behind Pérez, who at that time was just finishing the race in the damaged car. When he crossed the finish line, he let him know what he was thinking with a clear gesture of non-verbal communication.

Pérez was not far behind. As Lawson had a fight with Franco Colapinto at the end, in which he damaged his front wing, Hugh Bird, Red Bull’s pilot engineer, warned his driver about the debris on the track. He responded with a message to Lawson: “I suspect he’s the same idiot who struck again.”
