Warsaw. Southern Bypass of Warsaw – opening date

The Southern Bypass of Warsaw will be completed in stages. The last one is to be ready in the second quarter of 2021, although the original completion date was a few days ago.

– The plan is that we will travel from the Lublin Junction to the Przyczółkowa Junction, including the facility on the Vistula (bridge – ed.) At the end of this year – said Tomasz Żuchowski, director of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways at the Friday conference.

– On the other hand, the four and a half kilometer section with the tunnel under Ursynów, i.e. from Przyczółkowa Street to Puławska Junction, the plan is for us to go along it in the middle of next year. It is possible technically and technologically, but it requires greater employee involvement so that this investment could be fully functional and safe for drivers – he admitted. And he informed that the most work was left for the contractor of the section with the tunnel under Ursynów.

Żuchowski also said that the Lubelska Junction itself will be put into use by drivers in stages. At the end of this year, it will be possible to drive through a part of the junction from the Southern Bypass of Warsaw towards Mińsk Mazowiecki, while the entire junction will be ready for next spring.

This is not a “delay”, it is “an extension of the time to complete the works”

The entire tour was supposed to be ready in August this yearNevertheless, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways argues that … we are not dealing with a delay.

– We are dealing with “delay” when one or both parties to the contract are at fault. Another thing is “extending the time to complete the works”. It is possible under the conditions specified in the contract, when the contractor provides explanations and gives reasons for the necessity to extend the duration of the contract. These reasons must be objective and independent of the parties. As a rule, they result from external factors, e.g. soil and water conditions, weather conditions, archaeological discoveries, etc., and thus factors that cannot be predicted or clearly described in the contract – explains Małgorzata Tarnowska, spokeswoman for the Warsaw branch in the press release. Work progress from 80 to 90 percent

The southern bypass of Warsaw stretches from the Puławska Junction over the new bridge over the Vistula to the Lublin Junction and is 18.5 km long. The value of the investment is over PLN 4.1 billion, of which the value of the works is PLN 2.7 billion and the value of the land purchase is PLN 1.2 billion.

The construction of the bypass has been divided into three sections. The first one extends from the Puławska Junction to the Przyczółkowa Junction (without the junction) and is 4.6 km long, half of which is the tunnel under Ursynów. As representatives of the Astaldi company, which is building this part, admitted on Friday, the work progress has exceeded 80 percent.

The second section is a section from the Przyczółkowa Junction (with the junction) to the Wał Miedzeszyński Junction (with the junction) and is 6.5 km long, of which the bridge over the Vistula River is 1.5 km long. Here, the work is done by the Turkish company Gulermak.

Warbud is responsible for the construction of the third section, from the Wał Miedzeszyński Junction (without the junction) to the Lubelska Junction (without the junction). This section of the route is 7.5 km long.

The advancement of works on the sections built by Gulermak and Warbud exceeds 90 percent.
