In early July, surveillance cameras in Nowy Świat recorded how 35-year-old Eryk G. approaches a woman who is walking with her husband and son and punches her in the face. The man then heard the accusation of “violation of the functions of the body organ”. On Monday, the spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, Aleksandra Skrzyniarz, announced that the prosecutor’s office had decided to change the qualifications. – During the interrogations, the man did not admit to the alleged offense. His explanations showed that “something guided him” – reminded the Chest. And she added: – The prosecutor decided to change the charge. At the beginning of September, Eryk G. heard the accusation of attempting to cause serious damage to the victim’s health in the form of another serious disability, consisting in the loss of sight in the left eye by inflicting a strong punch in the victim’s face, which led, among other things, to breaking the orbital wall. The effect of a severe disability did not occur due to the intervention of other people. The prosecutor assumed that the man was acting with a possible intention.

From three to fifteen

The change in the charge was a consequence of the intervention of the Prosecutor General Zbigniew Ziobro, who in July ordered the Warsaw Śródmieście-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office to analyze the evidence in this case. For the alleged crime, Eryk G. may be imprisoned for up to fifteen years, and not shorter than three years in prison. With the previous classification of the act, he could be imprisoned for up to two years.

The man has been in remand center since his arrest.

In July, the press officer of the downtown headquarters, Robert Szumiata, described that “the first information that reached the police was about an aggressive man attacking random passers-by, demolishing beer gardens and threatening the staff of nearby eateries.” The 35-year-old had marijuana with him. Toxicological studies showed that at the time of the incident, Eryk G. was under the influence of several intoxicants.
