Warriors fall to Sixers and Curry falls short of record

Los Angeles (AFP) – The Golden State Warriors lost 102-93 on Saturday to the Philadelphia 76ers in a discreet game by Stephen Curry, who barely scored 3 triples and continues to chase the all-time record in this NBA category.

The stellar point guard, who had 18 points, needed 10 triples to beat retired Ray Allen, who remains at the top of the all-time standings with a total of 2,973.

Unusually ill-advised, Curry made his 3 3s in a total of 14 attempts under fierce defense from the Sixers, determined to avoid the festivities on their court.

The 33-year-old point guard has been concentrating the NBA’s attention on his countdown to the record for days.

Although he hasn’t made 10 3-pointers in any game this season, few would have been surprised if the point guard sealed his way to the top with such a feat.

Curry could also achieve it against his brother Seth, a Sixers guard, who also could not shine and stayed at 10 points and no triple.

Coach Doc Rivers preferred to pair Curry with Matisse Thybulle, one of the best perimeter defenders in the league.

Under Thybulle’s tagging, Curry stayed on 2 3-of-6 attempts in the first half.

Sixers’ shooting guard was even able to put two blocks on him when he was shooting three.

The record’s illusions faded in a third quarter in which Curry missed his only two attempts.

The Warriors had a 13-point lead (69-56) midway through the third period but the Sixers took advantage of a break from foul-troubled Curry and Draymond Green to move closer with a 9-0 run.

Thybbulle himself put the hosts ahead with a triple that put Sixers 81-78 ahead and Joel Embiid took the game in the fourth quarter finishing with 26 points and 9 rebounds.

“It’s no secret that (Curry) was going to go for the record but we didn’t want him to do it at our house,” Thybulle said.

“That was not going to happen in Philadelphia, it is my city,” Embiid stressed.

The 93 points were the lowest scoring of the season for the Warrios, who leave the leadership of the Western Conference in the hands of the Phoenix Suns.

Curry’s next chances to add the 7 3-pointers left to overtake Allen will be Monday at the Indiana Pacers court and Tuesday against the New York Knicks at the iconic Madison Square Garden.

Heat surprise Bulls

In other games on Saturday, the Miami Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls 118-92 despite the losses of their figures Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

Veteran point guard Kyle Lowry took over the team with 16 points and 14 rebounds while guard Zach Lavine was the only one to shine for Chicago with 33 points and 7 triples.

The Heat are thus placed in fourth position in the East, just one victory behind the Bulls, third.

For their part, the Utah Jazz increased their consecutive winning streak to seven, the best in the league today, with a resounding 123-98 victory on the Washington Wizards’ court.

Guard Donovan Mitchell had 28 points and French center Rudy Gobert 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Jazz, third in the West.

Up front, All-Star guard Bradley Beal led the Wizards offense with 21 points.

The Denver Nuggets beat the San Antonio Spurs 127-112 on the court with a dominant performance by Serbian Nikola Jokic, with 35 points, 17 rebounds and 8 assists.

Argentine Facundo Campazzo contributed 8 points and 8 assists in 29 minutes of play for Denver.
