Warriors’ Draymond Green excited about Lauri Markkanen signing with Utah Jazz – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Draymond Green said he was happy that Lauri Markkanen was getting paid, even if it was at the expense of the Warriors.

Golden State reportedly aggressively pursued a trade for Markkanen before the star forward signed a massive five-year, $238 million contract extension with the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, eliminating any chance of a trade for him before and during the 2024 NBA season.

In a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” the Warriors forward briefly discussed Markkanen’s contract and congratulated the big man for securing the bag.

“Falseness [Charania] “Lauri Markkanen is reportedly close to signing a big deal with the Utah Jazz, which makes him unusable next year by signing this massive contract extension,” Green said. “I think that’s great for the Utah Jazz. There’s been a lot of talk about moving him… Danny Ainge is always doing something, I don’t know.

“So, hi Lori, grab your bag. I’ll be happy when the boys get paid.”

Green seemed to be alluding to the ongoing reporting of Markkanen trades over the past few weeks, and after the Warriors failed to sign him, he was eager to put the rumors to rest.

“And yes, it is moving forward in the sports media, because it was talked about [about] “My Instagram algorithm kept popping up, ‘Don’t keep showing me this, I don’t want to keep seeing this. No, but say hi to Lori, man,'” Green added.

At the end of the day, Markkanen didn’t end up with the Warriors, but Green is still happy with the 7-footer.
