Warring Ukrainian rock band wants to perform at British benefit concert, but does not get permission: “We will play under the bombs”

The Ukrainian band Antytila claims to fill stadiums in peacetime, but the war in the Eastern European country completely changed the lives of the musicians. They laid down their instruments to take up arms against the Russian occupier. But the members of the popular rock band would have loved to perform – via live stream – at the UK benefit concert for Ukraine in Birmingham on March 29. “We will play under the bombs in Kiev,” singer Taras Topoly said in an appeal to British pop artist Ed Sheeran. “We’re ready.” But the band does not get permission from the organizers of the benefit concert because they are fighting in the war. “We must avoid ties to the military and the military at all costs,” he said apologetically.
