Warns storm, gale, sleet and snow

The Meteorological Institute sent eleven danger warnings at yellow level, about storms, squalls and strong gusts of wind in Rogaland, Vestland and parts of Agder.

Most hazard warnings apply Monday through Tuesday and last through Friday.

The danger warnings include, among other things, the recommendations not to go out to sea with a small boat and to secure loose objects.

At the same time as forecasts of storms and strong winds, forecasters are also warning of sleet and precipitation in the mountains of southern Norway.

Strong wind

– A high pressure that is now in the Norwegian Sea will move over Scandinavia and stabilize over Sweden and Finland. At the same time, severe low pressure is coming in from Britain and Iceland, says StormGeo’s shift meteorologist Beathe Tveita.

High pressure and low pressure lead to strong winds in parts of southern Norway, which is why warnings have been issued, says Tveita.

Last week was the core and inner part of Vestland County which was affected by the floods. Now a new storm will hit further south in the county, as well as Rogaland and Agder.

– Fairly strong wind fields are expected, combined with some precipitation, such as sleet and snow, in the mountains of southern Norway. Whether it’s a strong wind or some snow, it won’t be very pleasant in the southern mountainous regions, says Tveita.

Sleet and snow

There is a small layer of snow in the mountains of Southern Norway, and the snow that arrives this week may make that layer a bit thicker. But no large amounts were reported, Tveita tells StormGeo.

The snow that arrives will settle at 700-800 meters above sea level.

Precipitation can also come in the form of sleet and rain in lower-lying areas. But overall it will be much drier this week than last week, according to forecasters.

Currently only the areas of Langfjella in southern Norway (mountainous area from Jotunheimen and southwards) and parts of Telemark and Vestfold are receiving precipitation according to StormGeo.

It will be nice here

If you want to see the sun this week, you have to stay from Møre and Romsdal and north.

In Finnmark, clouds will block the sun in most places, and it will get colder during the week, but the sun may still come through. Some wind is also expected.

In Troms, Nordland, Trøndelag and Møre and Romsdal sunny weather is expected for most of the week.

In terms of temperature, Møre and Romsdal, Trøndelag and Helgeland in Nordland are the winners.

According to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, it will be particularly hot during the week in the last two locations:
