Warning: Unpleasant Findings in Chicken Meat Sold in Czech Stores

For some reason, chicken meat is among the most popular in the Czech Republic. Foreign gourmands would probably shake their heads at this, because you don’t get much out of chicken, and compared to pork or beef, it doesn’t offer general flavors, but as they say, there’s no arguing against taste. However, it is extremely important that people buy good quality chicken because there is so much that can go wrong.

The warning came true

As it seems, retail chains don’t pay much attention to this and try to offer customers everything possible, especially if they manage to buy it cheaply. It can go unnoticed for a long time, but it is in these weeks that we finally learn what we are actually consuming. The state agricultural and food inspection has started to inspect chicken meat on a large scale and is finding really unpleasant things.

In a short period of time, we already have a third case of highly objectionable chicken meat that was sold in bulk. This time at Penny Market and it contained salmonella. It was chicken breast fillets, the importer of which was the infamous company We Trade. She repackaged them in Slovakia in order to at least give the country of origin, which is Ukraine, a little shot.

Not that there are necessarily bad foods flowing from this country. Much is exaggerated in this regard, but on the other hand, in the case of chicken, we should really be careful. For example, the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic already warned against such importation of chicken a few months ago, with regard to the potentially insufficient control mechanisms in Ukraine, where the conditions are simply not as strict as in the European Union.

People don’t want it anymore

In theory, everything should be fine and imports are allowed, but how it works in practice is a big question. That it will be no glory is demonstrated by the very product that reaches Czech stores and eventually onto the plates of domestic households.

Penny Market is not the first store to sell such objectionable meat. Shortly before that, it involved Tesco, and even before that, the ICU wholesaler. The problem is also that the results of the checks are delayed, and in the case of meat that is sold fresh, this means that usually everything is already sold and eaten.

“I’m really concerned about what the chain stores are selling here. I thought they would check the suppliers properly, but apparently not. I now buy meat exclusively from Czech farms, I wouldn’t dare to do anything else, even if it is significantly more expensive,” said Mrs. Anička from Karviná for Mix24.cz.
