Warning to motorists: – Drive carefully!

A change in the weather leads to soapy roads in both Eastern and Western Norway. Vegtrafikksentralen öst asks people who don’t have to go out to drive to leave their car.

During the night until Monday, contractors from the Norwegian Road Administration worked furiously, including the salted roads.

Slippery roads and clogged drains

There were reports of several car hoists last night, informs the Eastern Road Traffic Center in VG.

– Today is a day when you have to consider whether you should go out and drive or not. If you have to go out, drive carefully and slow down, says Christofa Key-Nilsen at the Road Traffic Center.

It warns that there are large accumulations of water in several places and that work is being done to open clogged drains.

Challenging winter conditions

Slippery roads are also reported in Western Norway.

– There are severe winter conditions on most roads within the Vestlands, Voss, Aurland and parts of Sogn area. All cars are out and taking measures, but it could still be slippery and in bad shape in several places. Drive carefully and according to the conditions, reports Vegtrafikksentralen west on Twitter.

– It might be a good idea to check the road signs on the road you are on. More time should be calculated on some sections. And because it’s slippery, you should keep a good distance from the driver in front, so that you have the margins on your side, says Stein Nestås at Vegtrafikksentralen west of VG.

He claims they are out in several places to reduce friction on the road surface. Among other things through salting and ice planing.

YELLOW HAZARD WARNING: Meteorologists yesterday issued a yellow ice warning for Oslo, parts of Viken County and Innlandet on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Looking forward to more traffic

Boxing Day has been quiet so far, with little traffic on the roads.

– We expect it to resume tomorrow due to the change from the floating public holiday to the normal working day, says Nestår.

Here are some of the events to date:

  • A lone car drove into the tunnel wall within the Kleivenetunellen south of Drammen. Police responded to the incident shortly after 0700 today.
  • Vikafjellet is closed. A new evaluation will be carried out at 10.00.
  • Oslo 110 Central reports that it has participated in 11 water leak missions last night and to date.
  • E6 in Alnabru. The collective lane is closed in the direction of Gardermoen due to a traffic accident, reports the road traffic center on Twitter at 08.19.

Yesterday afternoon, forecasters posted a yellow warning of ice danger for Oslo, parts of Viken and Innlandet County. The alert lasts until 09:00 on Monday.

A yellow warning is expected for inland snow on Tuesday.

– Some trips may have a longer journey time. There could be difficult driving conditions locally, reports the Meteorological Institute.

Leave the car, but…

Road Traffic Centers are encouraging people to consider giving up today’s driving. But on Monday morning the train is not a good option. At least not between Lillestrøm and Oslo Airport, Gardermoen.

There are delays due to disruptions on the tracks, and this affects the air train and several regional trains, writes Bane Nor in his Web sites.

— We are working to fix the bug, but we don’t know how long it will take, they write.
