Indonesia’s Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) has warned against placing Indonesian migrant workers in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos, as these countries are not their intended destination. Despite the high salaries being offered, these countries have become illegal deployment locations where migrant workers are held against their will and their travel documents confiscated. Thousands of Indonesians have already been repatriated from these countries, and caution is needed when considering job offers in Laos and Myanmar as the actual work is often for online gambling. Despite this warning, the Indonesian government still seeks to rescue 20 nationals who are working illegally in Myanmar and trapped there. The government takes the safety of its citizens seriously and is committed to repatriating them and taking over the remaining legal processes. It should be noted that Indonesia has no worker placement agreement with Sudan and that the MPR has sought firm actions against fraudulent migrant worker agents.
