Warning strikes expected at Hanover and Bremen airports

There could be delays and flight cancellations at the airports in Hanover and Bremen on Monday due to warning strikes. The Verdi union has called on security forces in passenger control to stop work all day. The call also applies to the airports in Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn, Berlin and Leipzig.

The warning strikes are part of a wage dispute between Verdi and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS). The union is negotiating with the employers’ association about a new collective agreement for around 25,000 security forces nationwide, three rounds of negotiations had so far remained unsuccessful. Both sides want to meet on March 16th and 17th in Berlin for further negotiations.

According to Verdi, more than 100 specialists are currently needed in Hanover alone in order to be able to check passengers “in a reasonable time and to avoid long queues”.
