There, on Monday morning, members of the Verdi services union demonstrated against the working conditions at the MDR subsidiary Media & Communication Systems (MCS).

Due to the corona rules, only ten people could go on strike at the same time. “But we will change in between,” says Detlef Heuke (57) from Verdi.

With the strike, the union wants the company to negotiate with them about social standards and the conclusion of a collective agreement for the freelancers. This includes, among other things, continued payment of wages in the event of illness and holiday entitlement.

“However, MCS refuses to speak to us at all. This is unspeakable behavior that I have rarely experienced in this way,” says Heuke. Therefore, the strike is intended to emphasize the demand for talks.

MCS Managing Director Bernhard Obenaus disagrees: “Of course there have already been a number of talks with Verdi and we are still willing to talk.”

If negotiations are not started, the union does not rule out further strikes.
