JAKARTA – Smokers are very susceptible to 56 pathology different. This was revealed by research conducted by the University of Oxford and by various health institutions in China and recently published in The Lancet Journal.

“About two-thirds of young Chinese become smokers and most start before the age of 20. Unless they stop, about half of them will end up killed by their habit,” said Professor Liming Li, one of the scientists involved in the study.

Professor Liming Li further said in the study that it was known that compared to those who had never smoked, men who smoked regularly at some point in their lives had an overall 10% higher risk of developing any disease. The disease with the greatest increased risk, which is 216%, is cancer of the larynx.

Senior author Professor Zhengming Chen in the same study suggested a substantial increase in cigarette prices to avoid this risk. “For China, a substantial increase in cigarette prices and effective warning on packs could save tens of millions of lives,” she said.
