Warning of excessive heat in NY before a new round of sweltering temperatures in the tri-state area – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – The heat is back with temperatures topping 90 degrees this week, according to The Weather Authority (LAEET).

An excessive heat advisory has been issued for New York, with temperatures that could feel close to 100 this week

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat advisory for New York City for Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

While actual temperatures are not expected to exceed 95, the humidity will make it feel much warmer outside.

Some showers and thunderstorms later in the day could be noticeable on Wednesday, although there is a better chance of storms later in the week.

Dangerous heat and sweltering humidity return to the tri-state area this week, and Tuesday’s increased humidity is just a harbinger of things to come.

Tuesday is expected to be warm, with the heat index generally below 90 and mercury near 86, but the latter is expected to rise above 90 on Wednesday and stay there until at least Friday. That stretch of three consecutive days of temperatures above 90 would mark another heat wave.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible later on Tuesday before the hot leg, although there is a greater chance of storms later in the week. The heat hazard is expected to peak Thursday with near-record highs reaching 90 degrees.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat advisory for New York City for Thursday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., urging people to avoid strenuous activities and reduce outdoor exposure.

Due to the forecast high temperatures, cooling centers will open throughout New York City on Tuesday. To find a location, hclick here or call 311.

Friday will be only a few degrees cooler at best, but conditions will continue to be humid and sweltering heading into the weekend. Storm risk at this point appears to be greatest on Saturday before a less humid Sunday brings some relief.
