The Disabled Aid Offenbach warns of the federal government’s plans to make massive cuts to voluntary services. The cuts meant that services for people with disabilities would have to be severely restricted. In the coalition agreement between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP there was talk of strengthening voluntary services, but in 2024, according to Berlin’s plans, there will be 78 million euros – around a quarter – less money for voluntary social years, voluntary ecological years and federal voluntary service.
According to Claudia Kamer from the Offenbach Disabled Support Volunteer Service, three groups are affected by the cuts: Offers for people with disabilities in care would have to be eliminated because they can only be presented with the help of volunteers. For many young people, there would also be no guidance when it comes to choosing a career. Ultimately, the facilities would be permanently affected because the cuts exacerbated the shortage of skilled workers.
