Because:
– Although the asphalt looks black and nice, it can be very slippery!
That’s what traffic operator Hans Gustav Møvik-Olsen says in Vegtrafikksentralen öst.
On Friday, snow turned to slush and ice to water when precipitation came together with mild weather. On Saturday morning, however, the temperatures hover around the freezing point – something several motorists have experienced:
- On the E18 near Tønsberg, a car skidded and ended up in the concrete. The person was slightly injured, but the car was worse. The speed on the road has been reduced after the accident, the police say.
- Two cars and a lorry got into trouble on the smooth road on the E18 in Bærum. No one was injured, but one of the cars lost a tire. They slipped on the road at the exit to Sandvika, where it is “very slippery”, according to the police.
- In addition, several drivers have reported slippery roads. This particularly applies to the E6 towards Gardermoen and the E6 south out of Oslo, says Møvik-Olsen in the Swedish Traffic Agency.
There can be large local variations and the police’s call is resoundingly clear:
– We encourage everyone to drive carefully and take it easy. You might be surprised, says operations manager Sven Martin Ege in the Oslo police district.
See how you should NOT drive on the ice:
On Saturday morning, the Norwegian Road Administration works hard to spread roads. Fortunately, this is a less busy departure day than the Friday into the winter holidays.
Men:
– You have to be careful. Concentrate on driving and nothing else, says Møvik-Olsen.

It will be gray and a lot of rain.
The Road Traffic Center in the south also warns against slippery roads.
– It froze last night. It is clear that there will be a risk of slippery sections with this change in weather. It really applies to the whole of southern Norway, says traffic operator Andreas Larsen.
What is your strategy on the smooth?
