Warning for virtual scams: they pose as employees of the Ministry of Health

Phishing Scammers Impersonate Health Officials to Target Residents

Authorities are warning residents to be on high alert for sophisticated phishing scams targeting individuals in Neuville, Argentina. These scams involve impersonating health officials to gain access to personal information and ultimately defraud unsuspecting victims.

In a recent case, two Neuville residents were contacted by fraudsters posing as employees of the Ministry of Health. The scammers engaged the individuals in conversation, eventually gaining enough trust to hack their accounts and gain access to their contacts. By then impersonating these individuals, the criminals were able to target their contacts and trick them into divulging personal information or even sending money.

"In this situation, do not respond to messages and calls, especially from Whats App, and be careful when logos or images appear that appear to be from official organizations and in fact are not," authorities warned.

Responding to these alarming incidents, the Ministry of Health of Buenos Aires Province issued a statement clarifying that they "do not request personal data through any means of communication for procedures or health procedures." The Ministry urged residents to "rule out" any such requests and "report" any suspicious activity immediately.

This case highlights the evolving tactics used by scammers. Their ability to impersonate trusted entities like healthcare agencies underscores the need for vigilance and cybersecurity awareness.

The incident serves as a reminder for individuals everywhere to be cautious about unsolicited communications, always verify the identity of the sender, and never share sensitive information unless they are absolutely certain of the recipient’s legitimacy.
