With the new German series Boom Boom Bruno, Warner TV Serie probably wants to offend. Ben Becker plays the titular hero and police officer. This is understood with like “asshole” and “Dirt bag“ described.
This is how the pay TV broadcaster introduces the character: “Bruno is an asshole, a real scumbag. In his world, many things are simple. men are men. women are women. America the great freedom. Bruno likes to think of himself as an American cop – eating out at the diner, loving his bourbon and having fun at the strip club. He is a police officer on the outskirts of Berlin and has cock cancer, which he ignores (it’s for wimps). And then he gets a new partner: Mark. Mark likes musicals, makeup, glittery dresses. He doesn’t like being a policeman and Bruno. The best conditions to solve the murder of a drag queen together.“
And this is how the series is summarized: Bruno (Ben Becker) is not just any police officer. He’s Boom Boom Bruno, the cowboy on his turf. Here he has everything under control. His criminals, his hookers, his boss. He’s thrilled to have a new partner in Mark (Vincent zur Linden) – because he can teach this insecure boy to be a real guy with balls. But when a drag queen is found dead in his neighborhood, both have to fight against their own prejudices and resistance from all sides in order to solve the case.
The books are by Kerstin Sofie Laudascher (“Porn Punk Poetry“, Doctor Ballouz), directed by Emmy-winning Maurice Hübner (“Brown family“, „Passau thriller“, fawn). Julia Jalnasow is responsible for the image design (“Shore women“, „Brown family“). The six 45-minute episodes are produced by Odeon Fiction for Warner TV Series. Producers for Odeon Fiction are Vitus Reinbold and Ann-Kathrin Eicher, Producer Julian Coromines. Hannes Heyelmann and Anke Greifeneder, who is also in charge of the editorial department, act as Executive Producers for the Warner TV series.
Anke Greifeneder, Executive Producer & Editor-in-Chief Warner TV Series: “‘Boom Boom Bruno’ is a sexist, stereotypical cop. ‘Mark’ a young, insecure, uncommitted detective. Worlds collide and yet a strange father-son relationship develops between them and the realization that old world views can actually change through new experiences and encounters. And if Bruno can do that, there will be hope for everyone. We tell this story with a real hit team in front of and behind the camera as an exciting criminal case with black humor, as crimedy.“
Kerstin Sofie Laudascher, author: “One day Bruno suddenly sat next to me with a cowboy hat, a magnificent mustache, Colt and asked: ‘Well baby, how about a cocktail? I’ll buy you a panty inspector. Since then I haven’t been able to get rid of him. I am all the more pleased that Ben Becker is now taking care of him. I couldn’t imagine a better Bruno. By the way, the most common reaction to the scripts was: Was it written by a woman? um Yes! And that alone shows that we obviously need Bruno quite urgently.“
Maurice Hübner, director: “‘Boom Boom Bruno’ is like a dirty, barking street dog. Fascinated and a bit intimidated, I asked myself: Do I really want to have anything to do with this monster? The closer I got to him, the more I realized under the dirty fur how in need of love and full of longing the old animal is. As brutal, funny and exciting as the story is, it tells a very close and touching core of the deepest humanity. Yes, we need Bruno! He proves that it’s never too late to change and reach out to others. And that takes a hell of a lot of courage.“
