Dune: Part Two’s impressive performance was driven by its strong holdover in international markets. The film experienced a mere 36% drop in earnings from the previous week. Comparing its earnings with other blockbuster films, the movie has outperformed films like 2021’s Dune, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and Godzilla Vs Kong.

Kung Fu Panda 4

Universal/DreamWorks Animation just released the highly anticipated Kung Fu Panda 4, which made an incredible debut in international markets. Opening in 41 markets, which accounted for just 23% of the international landscape, the film grossed a remarkable $22.2 million. This resulted in a sensational global debut of $80.5 million.

Kung Fu Panda 4’s International Success

Spain had the biggest opening for Kung Fu Panda 4, earning $3 million which included preview screenings. The film saw the second biggest opening day of the year and the best animated title opening since Puss in Boots in 2011.

In Malaysia, the film premiered with the biggest studio opening day of the year, ranking as the 3rd biggest Universal animation opening day and the 4th biggest DreamWorks opening day of all time.

Indonesia

Kung Fu Panda 4 made the second-best opening day of the year for a studio movie in Indonesia. The film also had an exceptional weekend, earning $2.1 million including preview screenings.

Vietnam

Vietnam witnessed the biggest opening day ever for an animated film. Kung Fu Panda 4’s weekend earnings of $1.94 million set a new record as the biggest Hollywood animated opening weekend in the country.

Poland

Kung Fu Panda 4 generated $1.6 million in Poland, demonstrating strong performance even surpassing notable film titles like Super Mario Bros.

Other Markets

In addition to the aforementioned countries, Kung Fu Panda 4 also achieved successful debuts in countries such as Argentina, Denmark, Chile, and Singapore, becoming the best start of the year in Singapore.

With only a 36% drop in holdovers, the film’s international earnings have now reached an impressive total of $210.5 million. Its global success is evident, currently standing at $367.5 million in total earnings as of Sunday.

China Box Office Triumph

Dune: Part Two’s launch in China, distributed by Legendary East, was a highlight. Garnering an estimated debut of RMB 142.1 million ($20 million), the film became the second-highest grossing film in the country, closely following the Taiwanese title, The Pig, The Snake and The Pigeon. Dune: Part Two’s opening also set a new record as the best opening weekend ever for both Denis Villeneuve and Timothée Chalamet. The IMAX China Network contributed $6.5 million, a substantial 33% of the total Chinese earnings.

Dune: Part Two’s Worldwide Popularity

In the 72 international markets where Dune: Part Two was released, the film claimed the number one spot in 57 of them. The movie’s strong box office performance was evident in markets like France, Germany, Taiwan, and Spain, where it achieved impressive drops between 17% and 35% from the previous week’s earnings.

IMAX Success

IMAX screenings of Dune: Part Two experienced a minimal 15% global drop in earnings, grossing $27.7 million from 1,600 screens. Its international earnings contributed $16.6 million, only a 25% decline from the markets that were included in the opening weekend. The international earnings of the film in IMAX theaters reached $35.8 million, while the global earnings stand at $72.4 million, representing 20% of the overall worldwide earnings at this stage.

The top five markets for Dune: Part Two are the UK ($24.8 million), China ($20 million), France ($19.4 million), Germany ($18.2 million), and Australia ($11.6 million). Japanese audiences can look forward to the film’s release this coming Friday.
