Warner Bros. Discovery hinted at release date for DC’s The Penguin series – Publinews – 2024-03-05 09:23:44

During a recent fourth-quarter earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav dropped hints about the release date of the highly anticipated DC series, The Penguin.

The entertainment industry was affected by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023, causing delays in numerous productions, including The Batman spin-off centered on the character of The Penguin, played by Colin Farrell.

Zaslav expressed his excitement for HBO Max’s upcoming content during the conference, highlighting the impressive lineup ahead: “Looking ahead, we have one of the best slates in HBO history. This next quarter, we will introduce Hacks and House of the Dragon, followed by DC’s The Penguin and the new Dune series.”

Estimated release date

Considering recent reports suggesting that House of the Dragon could be released in early summer 2024, it’s logical to infer that The Penguin would hit screens in autumn 2024.

These release date speculations are reinforced by the news that production on the series has recently wrapped, backed by reports of sightings of Batman actor Robert Pattinson on set during the final days of filming.

Cast and production team

The Penguin series is set in the same universe as The Batman and features Colin Farrell reprising his role as the villain from the DC comics.

The cast also includes Cristin Milioti, who plays the role of Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Gotham City mob boss Carmine Falcone. Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Rhenzy Feliz, Carmen Ejogo, François Chau and David H. Holmes complete the cast in as-yet-undisclosed roles.

Direction and production of the series

The first two episodes of The Penguin will be directed by Craig Zobel, known for his work on Mare Of Easttown, while Lauren LeFranc, known for her participation in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD and Chuck, will be the main writer and showrunner of the project.

In addition to his acting participation, Colin Farrell is also an executive producer of the series, along with The Batman director Matt Reeves and producer Dylan Clark.
