The coincidence of calendars: at the moment when Warner Bros. Discovery finishes filming the series The Penguinin the streets of New York, Marvel Studios takes the shots of Daredevil : Born Again. In both cases, urban productions, sparing digital effects, for two superhero brands seeking to rediscover a little authenticity via a general re-promotion of thriller noir intended for a more adult audience. As luck would have it, the series had already crossed paths before the strike… only to end up meeting again, a short year later. And in both cases, we are talking about underworld bosses.
Open-air filming: a real pleasure
After all these years of seeing superhero cinema locked in studios to shoot on a green screen (using “volume” or other technologies for artificial restitution of reality), the news is blooming again in the light of these captures in daylight. Obviously, passers-by benefit from this, and the next few weeks are likely to be loaded with images from this point of view. Recently, in the case of the series The Penguin, we were able to discover a new scene, with a new costume. Presumably an explosion scene. The joys of conquering power in a city where the mafia has controlled everything and everyone for thirty years. Necessarily. It annoys.
Series The Penguin still has no official release date, and if it was initially presented as the first stone of a larger universe, it now appears that Matt Reeves should for the moment focus on The Batman 2… And that’s about it. In short, the product no longer has a proper appearance of filler. Which is quite sufficient in absolute terms.
