Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
CEO Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) David Zaslav is optimistic that his company’s film and television production schedule will resume soon after the strike by Hollywood scriptwriters and actors ends.
In an investor meeting on Wednesday (6/9) US time, Zaslav stated that all his parties were eager to return to work.
“We are ready and excited,” said Zaslav at the press conference, as reported The Wrap on Wednesday (6/9).
“As soon as this strike ends, everyone is ready to go back to work,” he continued.
Zaslav’s comments came after the agreement between the Hollywood Writers Guild of America (WGA) writer’s union ended in a deadlock in the last meeting with officials from WBD, Disney, Universal and Netflix studios.
The giant studio, which is part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), predicts that an agreement will be found at the end of September.
However, he did not detail the things that the production house association had prepared to respond to or fulfill requests from Hollywood writers and actors regarding contracts.
According to Zaslav, if the AMPTP agreement with the writers’ and actors’ union does not produce a common ground, then the broadcast schedule that has been prepared for the final quarter of this year will be further disrupted.
“People need to get fair compensation and they need to feel valued,” said Zaslav, expressing his support for the two unions concerned.
He admitted that he had been in Los Angeles for the last few days, to intervene to mediate this complicated issue.
“We’re trying to resolve it in a way that’s really fair and so that everyone can feel like they’re being treated fairly,” he explained.
Previously, WBD had postponed the release of Dune: Part 2 and Godzilla x Kong: The Lost Empire as a direct result of the labor strike.
These two titles were officially confirmed to be postponed after four new WBD films were expected to change their screening schedule due to the Hollywood strike.
The decision to postpone the broadcast of Dune: Part 2 came when the WGA and SAG-AFTRA were still on strike. This makes it impossible for the actors to promote the high-budget film by director Denis Villeneuve.
