The Dutch clubs are doing particularly well in Europe this season with Ajax (CL), PSV (EL), AZ, Feyenoord and Vitesse (ECL) active in the group stage of a European tournament. The relevant Eredivisie clubs have already won 4,800 coefficient points. Only Sweden has done better so far with a coefficient of 4.875.
Due to all the matches in the preliminary rounds, this does not say much in itself, since top countries such as England, Spain, Germany and Italy will only start playing with their big teams from this month. Those four countries are still unapproachable for the Netherlands, but France and Portugal are getting closer. The Netherlands can even dream of a second CL ticket from the 2024/2025 season.
A place in the top 6 on the coefficient ranking provides a second direct ticket to the main tournament of the Champions League. The places 7 to 9, where the Netherlands are now, mean one direct ticket and one ticket for the third preliminary round.
The count in the coefficient ranking is over five seasons and with the position for 2024/2025, the Dutch disaster season 2017/2018, when only 2,900 coefficient points were collected, is lost. See the tweet below for the current position and the position when the 2017/2018 disaster season ends.
