Warm wind and warning – MeteoSwiss

If you look closely at the warning maps above, with some knowledge of the topography, you can see that not all wind warnings have been issued due to strong southwesterly winds. For example, the Urnersee was also warned, even though the southwest wind is almost impossible there. The reason is, how could it be otherwise, the hair dryer. The air south of the Alps is currently colder and therefore heavier than north of the Alps. As a result, a meridional overpressure of about 7 hPa occurred during the day. Supported by the libeccio wind, this air flowed over the Alps and manifested itself as foehn. Today the foehn blew at times on Lake Uri, Lake Walen and the eastern part of Lake Constance.
