War in Ukraine: Two civilians killed by Russian shelling in eastern Ukraine – 2024-03-31 12:51:26

Russian shelling killed at least two people and wounded another in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk province, Ukrainian authorities said today, adding that Ukrainian forces shot down nine enemy drones overnight.

The city of Krasnohorivka, which is very close to the war front, was under “enemy fire during the night and in the morning,” Donetsk regional governor Vadim Filaskin said in a Telegram post.

The gunfire killed a 70-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man and wounded another, the governor said, calling on those citizens who remained in the city to leave.

In the south-central Dnipropetrovsk region, a 36-year-old man wounded the previous day in a shelling has succumbed to his injuries and another is still in hospital, the governor of that province, Serhii Lysak, said.

Meanwhile, in the past 24 hours, a man was killed when the tractor he was driving ran over an explosive device while doing agricultural work near Topolin, Kherson province, Ukrainian police announced today.

In the Russian-held part of Kherson province, four civilians were also injured by Ukrainian missiles, the head of the local Russian occupation administration, Vladimir Saldo, said today.

Overnight from Friday to Saturday, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that it shot down nine Russian drones, out of a total of 12 launched by Russian forces, in the regions of Kherson, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava.

In Donetsk, Russia also carried out a strike with S-300/S-400 missiles fired from the annexed Crimean peninsula, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Russia has launched a campaign of airstrikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure over the past week, causing significant damage in several regions.
