During his visit to Ukraine, the American president announced to Volodymyr Zelensky “no more artillery, no more ammunition, no more Himars”.
WAshington will provide another tranche of military aid to Ukraine, amounting to 2 billion dollars, one year to the day after the start of the Russian invasion, a senior American official announced Thursday.
“The United States is today announcing $2 billion in additional military aid to Ukraine,” White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told CNN. He did not give details of these new deliveries.
The senior official, who accompanied Joe Biden on a surprise visit to Kyiv this week, added that the US administration is constantly wondering how to “give Ukraine the tools it needs to win”.
He noted that the US President during his visit told his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenzky “more artillery, more ammunition, more Himars”, in addition to previous US promises to deliver more armored vehicles and , later, tanks.
The Himars system (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System), manufactured by the American giant Lockheed Martin, is a rocket launcher mounted on light armored vehicles, already used effectively by the Ukrainian forces.
