The United States is sending part of its stock of Soviet air defense systems to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The armament, in particular, the Osa anti-aircraft missile systems, is several decades old.
Once upon a time, the United States specifically bought weapons to study the technologies used by Soviet and Russian designers. The weapon is well known to the Ukrainian military, who received such weapons after the collapse of the USSR.
The Pentagon declined to comment officially on the possible delivery of Soviet equipment to Ukraine. However, earlier President Biden assured that Washington would make every effort to expand Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.
