War in Ukraine: More than 3,000 civilians killed

More than 3,000 civilians have already died in Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, Radio Freedom reported, citing a report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has confirmed the deaths of 3,153 civilians and the injuries of a further 3,316 civilians as a result of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. The figures are from February 24 to midnight on May 1,” the report said.

The UN has emphasized that the real figures are much higher, with information coming from places of intense hostilities with delays, but many details of the loss of civilian lives have yet to be confirmed.

Reports of the deaths or injuries of many civilians in places such as Mariupol, Izjum and Popasna have not yet been confirmed and are therefore not included in these UN statistics.

The UN added that most of the civilian casualties were caused by the use of explosive weapons with a large area of impact, including firing with heavy artillery and jet fire systems, as well as rocket and air strikes.
