Anger against the United Nations General Assembly |
The meeting between Baerbock and Lavrov broke out–
A scheduled meeting broke out between Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (41) and Russian diplomacy chief Sergey Lavrov (72) in New York.
“After asking their questions about negotiations with Sergei Lavrov on the fringes of the UN General Assembly and receiving a proposed date from the Russian side, the EU delegations have disappeared from the radar,” criticized the spokesman for the ministry of Russian foreign Maria Zakharova (46) about her on the Telegram channel on Friday.
Apparently the spokesperson was also referring to a conversation started between Baerbock and Lavrov.
︎ In view of the general debate in New York, there were contacts between local delegations. The German news agency learned from diplomatic circles that this was the possibility of a conversation between Baerbock and his Russian counterpart on the safety of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. The meeting did not take place.
The Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine has been heavily contested in recent weeks. The plant has been hit multiple times, which has increased international concern over a nuclear accident.
An observation mission from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was able to visit the nuclear power plant in early September. However, most of the experts left on the same day, only two IAEA employees remained on site. The bombing of the nuclear power plant continued.
The nuclear authority defined the risk of accidents as “significant” in the investigation report and recently called for the construction of a protection zone around the plant.
