War in Ukraine – May be flooded after missile attack

Kryvyi Rih, the birthplace of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, has about 650,000 inhabitants. The city is located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, about 35 miles southeast of Kiev.

– At the impact site, we see a flow of water of 100 cubic meters per second, which is a large volume. The water level in the Inhulets River changes from hour to hour, Zelensky’s deputy chief of staff said Wednesday evening.

We are talking about 100,000 liters of water per second, roughly the same amount as the normal water flow in Gaula, Altaelva or Numedalslågen.

Eight cruise missiles

Deputy Chief of Staff Kyrylo Tymoshenko revealed the dam attack on the Telegram messaging service for the first time, reports the AP news agency. Eight cruise missiles aimed at water supply hit the city, which is located 15 miles southwest of Dnipro.

This led to a rapid rise in the water level and severe flooding in Inhulets, where the dam is located.

– It is a challenge for all of us, but the situation is under control, Tymoshenko said in the evening.

He promises retaliation

The Ukrainian president writes on his Telegram channel Wednesday evening that what he calls the “terrorist state” continues to wage a war against civilians.

– This time missile attacks on plumbing installations and an attempt to flood the city. All the occupants can do is create panic, an emergency and try to steal light, heat, food and water from people.

– Can it break us? At all. Will they face a fair reaction and retaliation? Definitely yes, continue.

Confirm the attack

Actually Verifiable verification service reviewed the video material and confirmed Wednesday evening that there was a Russian missile attack on a dam facility in Kryvyi Rih. They say videos shared on Telegram and Twitter show extensive damage to the dam. Large amounts of water rush down the valley, which has led to a rapid rise in the water level and massive flooding in the Inhulets River.

There have been reports of bridges being washed away by water bodies, but there have been no reports of deaths or injuries following the flooding on Wednesday night.

According to the Russian military website Topwar.ru, the target of the attack was to be a power plant, writes Faktisk Verifiserbar. The Russian Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the attack.
