A solemn moment in Chartres tomorrow
As in several other French cities, a rally in support of the Ukrainian people is organized in Chartres (Eure-et-Loir), Saturday February 26, 2022 at 5 p.m.
It will take place on the Place des Eparson the initiative of Chartres Ecologie, which is in the process of doing all the administrative procedures so that the Chartres can meet.
“A lot of people are concerned”
“There is no political issue behind this gathering”, emphasizes Quentin Guillemain, member of Chartres Ecologie and municipal councilor of Chartres. And to add: “coming together is a symbol of support, it will be a moment of contemplation in relation to what the world is going through, many people feel concerned”.
No intervention on Ukraine in city council
The opposition group to the municipal majority wanted, during the last municipal council of Chartres yesterday, to propose that the City could also show its support for Ukraine. Chartres Mayor Jean-Pierre Gorges cut Quentin Guillemain off at the very start of his speech, saying the city council was not “a forum” to talk about this situation. “There is a presidential election and candidates who have taken different positions” on the subject, said the mayor.
