War in the eyes of reporters… Greetings to the survivors of Israeli targeting

The head of the Press Photographers Syndicate, Ali Alloush, the caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad Makari, and a group of journalists and media professionals, including those who were directly targeted by the Israeli enemy last October, during their media coverage of security events in southern Lebanon, participated in the session. It is forbidden to attack journalists while carrying out their work, and this violation is classified as a war crime.

Barkhiya explained that the media crews adhered to the guidelines and were not present in any sensitive places, but they were targeted in an intentional manner, adding that the investigations must be supported by technical reports from the Lebanese army, which has not yet released these reports. Regarding his injury, he explained that the course of treatment will be long and he needs constant follow-up after he suffered a severe shoulder injury.

For her part, Carmen reiterated that she will not back down from continuing her work, and will return to practicing her profession immediately after completing her treatment phase, pointing out that she was subjected to an Israeli attack on October 9 in southern Lebanon, and another attack on October 13, as the Lebanese state and the Ministry of Defense demanded. The media specifically by establishing a dedicated cell for journalists to report on their exposure to any Israeli targeting, in addition to the necessity of continuous legal and judicial follow-up to achieve justice for Issam Abdullah and the rest of his colleagues.

In a speech by journalist Asaad Bishara from “Media Reporters for Freedom,” the Minister of Information called for the assistance and follow-up of all media crews during their media coverage in the southern regions, and for their permanent support and assistance, especially in the event that they are exposed to Israeli targets aimed at gagging their mouths and preventing them from conveying the truth to public opinion.

Robert Ghosn, from LBC, also narrated the details of the moment he approached the injured and helped them, stressing the need for the journalist to work to convey the news and facts with credibility and for the journalist or photographer not to turn into “the news,” which means the need for media crews to maintain their physical health during their working hours. Stressing that the mission is to convey the news and not to turn it into news.

In turn, the head of the Photographers Syndicate, Ali Alloush, stressed that the priority today lies in the necessity of securing all photographers while performing their profession, stressing that their physical safety is the basis today and it is necessary to avoid all risks present in southern Lebanon. He also pointed out that media institutions must ensure coverage. Medical insurance for all photographers and journalists and the need to ensure the types of health insurance for media crews, stressing that these insurances must include everything they are exposed to during their work, especially their coverage of wars, demonstrations, etc. He also called on media institutions to improve the living conditions of all photographers in order to support them financially and morally, especially during these sensitive days. .

The talk was concluded by Information Minister Ziad Makari, who assured the audience that he will follow up on the case of Issam and all colleagues and will not abandon this case and will follow it from all legal frameworks to achieve justice for all colleagues.
