“Iranian forces are always ready for strategic, operational and tactical confrontation in defense against the US and Israel,” said Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, the commander of Iran’s Khatam-al Anbiya Central Headquarters, as quoted by Reuters. Russia Today, Monday (8/11/2021).

The war games, dubbed “Zolfaghar-1400” include maneuvers in several areas of the Red Sea and Gulf of Oman, which are connected to the Persian Gulf via the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Local media reported that the Iranian Navy and Air Force practiced striking targets using various drones among other weapons in the southern part of the country. They coordinate closely with ground forces and rapid response units.
A spokesman for the war games, Rear Admiral Mahmoud Mousavi, said that various branches of the military were training to carry out surprise attacks against the enemy. “F-4 fighter jets practice hitting Navy targets with anti-ship missiles, among other activities,” he said.
The drills come weeks ahead of talks to revive the 2015 international nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The 2015 JCPOA agreement mandated curbs on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions. Negotiations are expected to resume on November 29, 2021 in Vienna.
