Taking big risks for themselves
The Yad Vashem Award Righteous Among the Nations is intended for non-Jews who resisted the persecution of the Jews in World War II and who took great risks for themselves in the process.
In the Netherlands, almost 6000 people have received the award, including well-known names such as Godfried Bomans, Alida ‘Majoor’ Bosshardt, Miep Gies, Frits Philips, Hannie Schaft, Gerrit van der Veen and Bep Voskuijl.
