ISIS-K is the terrorist group that was behind the suicide bombing at the gates of Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul, in August 2021. Hundreds of people, including 13 US soldiers, were killed in the attack.
According to the Taliban, Abu Omar Khorasani was executed in a prison in Afghanistan in mid-August 2021 or when the group captured the Afghan capital, Kabul.
When the Taliban came to power, its members took over the Pul-i-Charkhi prison where Khorasani was detained.
Some reports claim he has been released from prison along with thousands of other inmates.
But Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Khorasani had been shot dead along with eight others.
Then, over the weekend, the Taliban confirmed that Khorasani had been killed. The confirmation was broadcast on Lebanese television station, al-Mayadeen.
