Trump floated the idea during an interview broadcast by far-right radio host Wayne Allyn Root on Friday afternoon. Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon first touted Trump running for Congress to take over as House Speaker in February. Root brought up the idea with Trump in person during the interview.
“Why not, instead of waiting for 2024, and I hope you will run in 2024 but why not run in 2022 for the United States Congress? House seats in Florida. Big win. Lead us to a dramatic landslide victory. Take the DPR with 50 seats. And then you became the Speaker of the House, led the impeachment of Biden and started a criminal investigation against Biden. You’ve been obliterating him for the past two years,” said Root excitedly.

“I see… that’s very interesting,” Trump replied.
“Do it! You will be the hero of the people!” Root replied.
“Yeah, you know it’s very interesting,” Trump added as quoted by Newsweek, Saturday (5/6/2021).
He said several had previously suggested he run for the Senate.
“But you know, your idea might be better. It’s very interesting,” he added.
Right Wing Watch first reported the statement.

Bannon laid out a similar plan in mid-February during a speech he made to the Boston Republicans.
“He (Trump) will come back to us. We will have a big victory in 2022, and he will lead us in 2024,” said the former Trump administration official.
